The cartons contain plastic bags with liquids that can leak. These leaks can be recognized by dark discolorations on the outside of the boxes. When such defective pallets are stored in the high-bay warehouse, significant problems arise, including   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"sflist-round wp-block-list\">\n<li>Operational disruptions with sometimes lengthy downtimes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Damage, including stored pallets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complex manual re-sorting, often in great amounts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The customer was looking for a solution to detect these discolorations automatically and reliably. As there is no commercially available standard solution for this application, AUTFORCE was commissioned to carry out a comprehensive feasibility study to check the technical viability. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:5%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keyfacts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"sflist-round wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Objective: <\/strong>Automated detection of leaked liquids on cardboard surfaces<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cycle time:<\/strong> One pallet every 10 seconds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pallet loading:<\/strong> 6 boxes per layer in 6 layers (36 boxes per pallet)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pallets are wrapped in a transparent transport film<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-autforce-area\">\n            <div class=\"background\" style=\"background: #f4f5f7; height: 100%\"><\/div>\n    \n    \n    <div class=\"container free\" style=\"padding-top: 80px; padding-bottom: 80px; \">\n        \n        \n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Realization<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Setting up the test setups<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"sflist-round wp-block-list\">\n<li>Three different test setups were created in order to establish optimum conditions for image acquisition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Various combinations of camera systems, exposures and filters were tested.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tests were carried out with both smart camera systems and PC-based systems in order to find the best solution for detecting the leaks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Particular attention was paid to minimizing reflections from the transport film and reducing the effects of extraneous light.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:5%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Analyzing the image data<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"sflist-round wp-block-list\">\n<li>Various AI models were considered for the automated evaluation of the captured images.
